In 2017, Kya Lou opened an Instagram account and started to develop a color grading studio named COLOURED ONLY.

With a background in photography and editing, she adapted her knowledge to the field of color. And without a specific guide or precedent, she found a friend in trial and error and built the studio while learning the craft of color timing simultaneously. The studio sought to find alternatives within post production while challenging pre-existing workflows. As a colorist, Kya sought out work and collaborators that troubled the truth.

Still from Black Angel (2018) directed by Rhea Dillon. The first film done at COLOURED ONLY.

The support of friends, family and filmmakers helped the studio find footing in the industry. Things began to accelerate and along with new growth, came the need for additional support and resources in order to remain a sustainable practice and place of business. In 2021, Kya decided that it was time give her undivided attention to her craft as a colorist and closed COLOURED ONLY. She is now represented by Alter Ego and continues to work in Los Angeles, CA.
